Best Seafood Lunch Place In Gulf Shores, Alabama, Sea N Suds!

If you have walked the beach at Gulf Shores then you have probably walked right past Sea N Suds. Sea N Suds is probably my favorite lunch spot in Gulf Shores.

Because they are a beach access restaurant you might not even notice them from Hiway 59. The fact that they have low visibility from the road is a testament to the fact that they are another example of success due to being a favorite of locals.

Sea N Suds menu is simple. I have eaten their shrimp, fried shrimp sandwich and fried oyster sandwich. They were all fresh and tasty.

I think one of the real selling points of this place is they are reasonably priced., at least lunch menu items are. Currently, the fried shrimp sandwich is $10.75. and a quarter pound burger and fries for $10.75. You can peruse their menu here.

Sea N Suds has been family owned since 1975!

Check out this short video review. I can't recommend Sea N Suds enough!

It's Mikee's If You Are Serious About Seafood Places In Gulf Shores, Alabama!

There is a place in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where the locals go to feast on shrimp and other seafood delights. The name of the place may cause you to drive on by, but believe me, that would be a huge mistake.

If you are looking for fresh, tasty and plentiful seafood the choice is easy, it's Mikee's! They have been family owned since 1987. Here is a look at their menu.

We spent a nearly a week in Gulf Shores last winter to escape the frigid temperatures of Kansas. Gulf Shores is our new favorite beach escape. We ate seafood at several restaurants that week. By far and away  was the best of the rest!

I know what your thinking. Mikee's is number 31 on TripAdviser. It is number 38 on Welp for crying out loud! We are gonna be counter intuitive here and tell you, Mikee's is better than these two platforms rank them. Way better.

It's not real fancy from the curb, it obviously wasn't built to lure tourists. It's on a side street and not on the main drag, again, they appeal to the local Gulf Shore folks. It's pretty plain on the inside. The name, Mikee's, yeah it's not exotic. But I will tell you from personal experience, it blows the competition away.

First of all, let me assure you the place is clean. The service crew was friendly, fast and attentive. The food was fresh, well cooked and lot's of it. If you and your family are hungry then Mikee's will fill you up.

I'm a sucker for jumbo shrimp and I like it fried. Mikee's offers a half pound and a whole pound. I ordered the half pound. It was all I could do to finish it off. When I left the establishment I felt like John Candy in The Great Outdoors after he finished off the big 96er! I can't imagine anyone going in there and eating a pound of their jumbo shrimp but, hey, to each their own. If you are the John Candy type, Mikee's has several "all you can eat" fish plates too. I feel like I need a Tums just sharing that information.

Mikee's has a whole lineup of Po Boy sandwiches, salads and desserts. Speaking of desserts, they offer creamy peanut butter pie and key lime pie. My wife and I split a slice of key lime and it was sensational.

If you are not hunting for seafood then Mikee's is still a great choice as they offer steaks and all manner of chicken dishes.

I will repeat this axiom many times on this blog site, I usually look for locally owned restaurants where the locals are eating. You can rarely go wrong by that rule. You can't go wrong at Mikee's!

OMC Smokehouse In Duluth, There Is Some World Class BBQ In Minnesota!

My wife and I love to visit the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. Consequently we have spent quite a bit of time in Duluth, the "air conditioned city" that sits like a jewel perched high above Superior.

When we travel we like to avoid chain restaurants and choose rather to eat at places that we don't experience in our hometown of Lawrence, Kansas.

The last two trips to Duluth we have made it a point to dine at OMC Smokehouse, located at 1909 West Superior Street.

Duluth is doing what a lot of older cities in America are doing and that is revitalizing an older commercial district. It reminded us a lot of Westport in Kansas City. We loved the quaint architecture and there was an eclectic collection of ice cream parlors, bars and other locally owned restaurants. It's a great place to walk around and enjoy dessert after dinner.

You might be wondering what the letters OMC represent? It's oink, moo and cluck and that is exactly what you will find inside this establishment. Their menu is large and diverse. True to form they offer smoked chicken, beef and pork.

The first time we visited there we selected the Smoked OMC Plate which features St. Louis style ribs, brisket and 1/4 chicken. The brisket is something that I have enjoyed both times I have feasted at this place and if you are in to BBQ you know that brisket is where the boys are separated from the men!

Their brisket is tender and moist with enough fat to give it a great flavor. Since we live only 45 minutes from Kansas City we have access to some great smoked meat and I have to say, this OMC brisket does not take a back seat to KC's best.

I highly recommend the OMC Plate for the first time diner because it lets you sample the big three meats on their menu and it is a large serving that two people can share, our waiter recommend that we share it and we were glad he convinced us!

A lot of BBQ joints take the lazy way out when it comes to sides and side dishes are a specialty at OMC. We had the candied sweet potato bake, loaded mac and cheese, On the other occasion we have had the bacon and blue cheese potato salad and the jalapeno cheesy grits. My mouth starts watering when I think back on the experience.

OMC Smokehouse is usually busy but they have plenty of seating and they have nice areas to wait while your table is being prepared.

This place rocks and if you are thinking of traveling to Duluth you don't want to miss this delicious opportunity!
